but Please note that it is still under construction, so please contact us by phone,;Stan on 01642 (Redcar) 478859 or Eve 01642 490517 or email: americanmusic@stangee.co.uk if you have any queries about Instruments; Tuition: the Cleveland Ukulele Fraternity, the´Pickin´ Parlor´ Club; or even if you just want to shoot the breeze.
![]() This website is about Stan Gee and his love of American Music, and in particular Western Music, and the instruments needed to present the atypical sound!
His forthcoming performances & C.D's accompanied by his partner Eve; their instrument Collection associated with their love of this music.
Surplus instruments for Sale &/or Hire. Personal Tuition service,
You can find some fairly rough examples of live performances on You Tube simply by putting Stan & Eve in the search box. But there are more professional clips of Ukulele playing filmed by the Dangleberry Music Company to promote their line of ukuleles.
The Cleveland Ukulele Fraternity club that Eve hosts every 2nd. Wednesday in the month, and the Ukulele/Music Workshop that Stan hosts every 4th.Wednesday of the month, at the Duke William Pub in Skelton in Cleveland. See more about both these activities on the forcoming events page!
Last but not least, the ‘Pickin’ Parlor’ club they jointly host whenever guest Artistes of exceptional ability in their chosen instrumental field become available. Unfortunately The Pickin´ Parlor now only exhists to promote such special Artistes, and so we would like to extend a welcome to prospective guest Artistes, especially Americans intending visits in the future. We are particularly interested in Folk Singers & Musicians in a traditional vein. i.e.´Old-Time´; Bluegrass; Western, but are also amenable to contemporary artistes providing that they consider that the instrumental side of their work is as vital as their songs. Please send us your demo C.D. and promo material and I´m sure we can fix you up with a gig at the Pickin´ Parlor!

These are the rules for the 'Stan Gee Pick & Strum Trophy' competition for best performance on a fretted/stringed Instrument, as part of the Saltburn Folk Festival, which will take place at the Spa Hotel on Saturday afternoon: The competition is open to players of any fretted, or open stringed instrument who holds a full Festival ticket. It is not open to Fiddlers, or other instruments of the violin family. I don't have anything against the fiddle, I have been known to play it a bit myself when the occasion demands, but I believe the fiddle already has a pretty high status, whereas the 'frets' obviously don't! Therefore the point of this competition is to raise the bar for aspiring players, and the resulting higher performance levels should engender a greater respect and recognition for the role of Fretted and/or Open stringed instruments in the Folk World and hopefully beyond! Most other stringed instruments qualify for inclusion: the designation ‘Open-String’ is a catch-all term to encompass Harps; Psalteries; Zithers and their offshoots, e.g. Autoharps. The term ‘Fretted-Instrument’ covers not only all the familiar families of Mandolins; Banjos; Ukuleles; Dulcimers; Citterns etc. but all of their Hispanic cousins (most of which I know) and the myriad of Eastern; Middle-Eastern and African ancestors (most of which I don’t know but understand how they work) and would provide a welcome variety! It also covers Guitars of all types except totally electric models. Again, nothing against Electric guitars, but in order create a level playing field, it was decided to keep this prototype competition acoustic and simple as possible. There is a small grey area: Ironically it also includes instruments like 'fretless' banjos! Also double basses because, technically they are not of the violin family but Contra-Bass Viols, and are usually plucked. Another couple of little anomalies involve Psalteries which are Bowed; and Dulcimers which are hammered! The competition piece can be an instrumental (up to five minutes in length) or song accompaniment, and the entrant can be allowed one accompanist (but not a duettist). I think that covers it, so go polish up your party-piece for Saturday afternoon at the Spa! Chordially Stan Gee. |
